Audio filter testing

Faraday Technology make high performance audio filters. Each filter has to be hand
tuned to ensure it meets the specification. However, there are over 200 different
types of filter and setting up a network analyser to test each type is both time
consuming and prone to error.
Following the development of the Computer Aided Component Test Utility System (CACTUS)
by Atlantis Software, each network analyser is now set up in seconds by a PC linked
to each analyser via an IEEE-488 interface bus. The operator simply enters into
the computer the filter type being tested, and the analyser name where it is being
tested.
The computer extracts the appropriate test set-up details from a database and loads
them into the analyser. The whole process takes about 1 minute. The number of instruments
that can be connected to the computer is limited by the number of devices that can
be connected to an IEEE488 interface. The current system has seven analysers.
